Heating Systems & Applied Thermodynamics

  • 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A knowledge of basic thermodynamic principles enable a person to better think out solutions to design and operational problems. This knowledge also enables a person to better advance in the trades. This course better prepares a person to do that and to have a more thorough knowledge of heating systems using steam, hot water and warm air. On Day 1 math and physics concepts and heat and pressure measurement are covered along with the combustion process and the various burners, pilots, flame sensors and ventilation needs. Then low pressure steam and hot water heating boilers are covered along with boiler fittings and controls and boiler operation and maintenance. ASME CSD-1 code maintenance testing requirements and procedures are included. On Day 2 steam and hydronic heating systems are described along with their operation and maintenance. Also, covered are warm air and radiant heating systems and their operation and maintenance, including humidifiers and ventilation systems.
