This class covers the various styles of heat pumps available; package, split, air-to-air, water-to-air, single and multi-stage. The basic operation in the heating and cooling cycles are discussed along with refrigerant flows particularly during the defrost cycle. The use of variable speed compressors is now common place use along with variable speed fan motors. Also covered will be the electrical side, the different types of thermostats and the difference between thermal and economic balance point. General maintenance and troubleshooting the entire system rounds out the class.
