Trane® Highlights Energy Saving Performance Outcomes with the University of Florida at APPA 2017

San Francisco, July 21, 2017 – Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, will attend the APPA Leadership in Educational Facilities 2017 Annual Conference on July 21-23 in San Francisco. Steve Corson, leader, energy services for Trane, will present a case study alongside leadership from the University of Florida, which will detail recent work to expand the campus’ union building, while simultaneously upgrading major infrastructure systems to create a more sustainable and energy efficient environment.

Titled “University Renovation Exceeds Savings Expectations,” the presentation will educate conference attendees on how to update existing infrastructure to efficiently and sustainably meet demands for campus growth. Funding the infrastructure improvements with a performance contract enabled the university to pay for the upgrades through energy savings that Trane’s technology provided once implemented – allowing increased building capacity and reduced energy consumption.

Corson and Eddie Daniels, assistant vice president for Business Services for the University of Florida – who served as executive director of J. Wayne Reitz Union during the renovation – will discuss the logistics, planning, and outcomes of the expansion, in addition to providing guidance on developing the right strategy and approach for similar projects on other campuses. Roland Lemke, AIA®, principal of CannonDesign®, also will co-present. The presentation will take place on July 22 at 4 p.m.

“Academic communities are leading the sustainability movement and are seeking campus-wide solutions for indoor climate control that conserve resources and energy,” said Brad Trevillian, director of energy services at Trane. “The University of Florida’s upgraded union capacity continues to exceed energy savings and performance expectations, with savings surpassing the estimated annual savings of $263,083.”

In addition to completing the LEED certification process for the union building, currently under review, the project also received the EBie Award for the greatest dollar savings in building energy use from the Urban Green Council in New York.
