Trane Teams Up with Industry Partners to Win Second Annual ASHRAE
LowDown Showdown Energy Modeling Challenge

La Crosse, Wis., Oct. 24, 2016 – Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, participated in the second annual LowDown Showdown energy modeling challenge at the ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016 conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Trane received the “Most Practical” design award, which was based on cost effectiveness, constructability and real-world application of the design.

Nine teams competed in the contest, each using different core vendor modeling software. The challenge was to design and model a 50,000 square foot outpatient healthcare facility based off of an ASHRAE Standard 90.1-compliant baseline with the goal of achieving net-zero energy usage.

Trane team members included Trane Customer Direct Service (C.D.S.) coaches and industry professionals with backgrounds in engineering, energy modeling and architecture. Building off last year’s award-winning success, the team used their diverse backgrounds, skills, design and modeling expertise and the power of Trane TRACE™ 700 energy modeling software to design a healthcare facility that was realistic, practical and three times more efficient than the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 baseline.

“Given the significant focus this year on creating a more realistic design, I couldn’t be prouder of the team,” said Matt Biesterveld, Trane C.D.S. leader. “This recognition validates Trane TRACE 700 energy modeling software as best in class in the HVAC industry.”
