Outdoor Trane® / Mitsubishi Electric SMART MULTI Series solutions deliver exceptional comfort and reliability for a wide range of light commercial applications. Flexible and with a slim profile for reduced footprint, these units are designed to help deliver operational cost savings and long-term performance.

  1. All-electric efficiency

    Outdoor Trane® / Mitsubishi Electric SMART MULTI heat pumps are highly efficient. They can generate about 2-4x more energy in heating and cooling than they use in electricity.

  2. Smaller footprint

    Side discharge units allow for a more versatile, smaller footprint. This is ideal for both larger homes and light commercial uses.

  3. Quiet as a typical conversation

    Outdoor units are energy efficient and incredibly quiet, with operating sound levels as low as 49 dB(A).

  4. Flexible designs for large buildings

    Our three-phase SMART MULTI® outdoor units offer unparalleled versatility, connecting up to 30 CITY MULTI® commercial indoor units and up to 12 residential and light commercial indoor units. Perfect for strip malls, manufacturing plants, and hospitals, these units support large motors and industrial equipment, helping to provide robust performance and adaptability for diverse applications.

Product Information

  • Variable speed INVERTER-driven compressors provide more precise comfort control and greater energy efficiency than conventional systems.
  • Flash Injection: as temperatures fall, the compressor accelerates to keep indoor comfort. The flash injection process introduces a small amount of cooler refrigerant back to the compressor, reducing excess heat from the increased speed. This allows the compressor to run faster, deliver high heating performance, reach set points quicker, maintain efficiency, and recover swiftly after a defrost cycle.
  • Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i®) technology, allows SMART MULTI outdoor units to operate in outdoor temperatures as cold as -13°F for all-climate comfort, producing up to 100% heating capacity at 5° F.

  1. MXZ-SM (Single-phase)

    T Nv-Series Outdoor Multizone Medium Right Facing Hero
    • Cool or heat up to 12 CITY MULTI® or up to 8 M&P-Series individual zones with a variety of indoor unit styles. 
    • Compatible with M&P-Series and CITY MULTI® indoor units. 
    • Seacoast protection on heat exchanger and base panel (rated for 2,000 hrs in accordance with ASTM B117 testing) 
    • Optional base pan heater 
    • High pressure, compressor thermal and fan motor overheating/voltage protection 
    • Compressor overcurrent detection  

  2. NTXMSM (Three-phase)

    SMART MULTI Outdoor Unit MXZ-SM Single-Phase
    • Three-phase 208/230V operation 
    • 6-, 8-, and 10-ton capacities 
    • Connect up to 23 indoor units on the 6-ton, 30 indoor units on the 8- and 10-ton system. 
    • Outdoor unit fan can be adjusted to allow 0.12 in.w.g. static pressure by dip switch setting change 
    • Compatible with M&P Series and CITY MULTI® indoor units 
    • Seacoast protection on heat exchanger and base panel (rated for 2,000 hrs in accordance with ASTM B117   testing)  
    • High pressure, compressor thermal, and fan motor overheating/voltage protection 
    • Compressor over current detection 

  3. MXZ-SM Hyper Heat

    SMART MULTI Outdoor Unit MXZ-SM H2i Single-Phase
    • Available from 36, 42 and 48 KBTU/H capacities 
    • Heating performance down to -13°F (average of 78% heating capacity) 
    • Flash injection circuits provide efficient high heating capacities at low ambient temperatures. 
    • Compatible with M&P Series and CITY MULTI® indoor units.  
    • Seacoast protection on heat exchanger and base panel (rated for 2,000 hrs in accordance with ASTM B117 testing) 
    • Built-in base pan heater 
    • Quiet outdoor unit operation, rated sound pressure as low as 49 dB(A) 
    • High pressure, compressor thermal, and fan motor overheating/voltage protection 
    • Compressor over current detection 
    • Hyper-heating performance offers 100% heating capacity at 5°F and 75% heating capacity at -13°F
