FAQs

Your VRF system questions, answered.

A VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system is a highly adaptive, electrified, multiple zone thermal management solution with separate ventilation systems to help offer adequate indoor air quality and improved sustainability.

VRF systems work by adjusting refrigerant volume to meet a building’s heating or cooling needs. Indoor units relay temperature requirements to the outdoor unit, which then modulates the refrigerant flow and compressor speed to offer exceptional comfort.

Applying VRF Systems in Cold Climate Applications

All-electric variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems are positioned to replace fossil fuel burning equipment in almost any climate. Modern VRF systems far exceed the capabilities of conventional heat pumps at cold outdoor temperatures, as low as -31°F. When applied according to best practices and considerations for winter weather, today’s VRF systems can serve as the primary heating and cooling system, without requiring auxiliary heat.
