CoolSense® Integrated Outdoor Air Systems

Trane CoolSense HVAC system pairs dedicated outdoor air systems with chilled-water terminal units

Overview

Cool system, smarter choice.

With the rise of energy-efficient decoupled dehumidification systems, a right-sized, zone-level sensible-only cooling solution is a smart choice. Trane CoolSense® offers flexible zone reconfiguration, increased usable space, minimal maintenance, versatile heating options, and efficient operation with factory-installed controls.

  1. Efficient Operation

Integrates variable-speed fan control, decouples dehumidification from warmer chilled water and features pre-engineered demand control ventilation sequences for efficient operation.

  2. Comfortable Spaces

Decouples latent and sensible loads to efficiently provide precise ventilation, humidity, and temperature control to each zone, creating superior occupant comfort.

  3. Flexible Design

Reduced ductwork size reductes ceiling height for more usable space. Terminal units utilize the sensible cooling coil as a dual-purpose heating coil for heating needs.

FAQs

Your questions about integrated outdoor air systems, answered.

An integrated outdoor air system moves conditioned outdoor air from a DOAS unit through a pressure-independent, airflow-measuring ventilation damper on the sensible terminal unit.

Outdoor air systems decouple ventilation and dehumidification from zone sensible cooling and heating and reduce (or shuts off) ventilation in response to zone occupancy.

Trane CoolSense® is a comprehensive pre-packaged HVAC system featuring Trane air-handling units, terminal units, wired or wireless zone sensors, and Tracer® SC+ controls.

Yes, a sensible cooling coil can be used for heating when repurposed as a dual-purpose coil. Due to its large heat exchanger surface area, it is best to use a lower hot water supply temperature, less than 105°F (41°C). To reduce installation complexity, a hydronic branch conductor can be applied to simplify the distribution system. Additionally, lower temperature hot water can be a much more efficient solution when provided by a heat pump chiller plant or through a heat recovery option from the chiller plant.
