These units draw power from an external source and use refrigerants to keep cargo at the desired set-point, regardless of outside conditions.

Refrigerated storage containers can typically achieve temperatures ranging from -40°F to +86°F (-40°C to +30°C), depending on the model and specifications. Specialized units, such as ultra-low temperature containers, can reach temperatures as low as -94°F (-70°C), making them suitable for sensitive or high-value cargo that requires deep freezing.

Refrigerated containers are equipped with active cooling systems to maintain precise temperatures for cold storage rental, regardless of external conditions. Insulated containers, by contrast, do not have active temperature control; they rely solely on insulation to slow temperature changes.
