Trane® / Mitsubishi Electric HVRF

Meet our all-electric, two pipe hydronic VRF system - available now.

Introducing Trane® / Mitsubishi Electric HVRF, one of the most future-forward HVAC systems on the market. It combines VRF zoned comfort with hydronic chiller system advantages. The result is a new, all-electric heat pump that can heat and cool simultaneously. By using refrigerant in the exterior line sets and water in the interior line sets, HVRF uses up to 20% less refrigerant in the overall system compared to conventional VRF.

Electric heating and refrigerant reduction support decarbonization goals by reducing greenhouse gas potential. HVRF is an innovative and advanced concept that may be ideal if you’re striving to achieve more aggressive sustainability goals.

HVRF engineering: here's how it works.

  • Two refrigerant pipes connect outdoor units to the Hybrid Branch Controller (HBC), while two water pipes connect indoor units to the HBC
  • Heating and cooling begin with the popular N-Generation CITY MULTI® outdoor unit (air- or water-source)
  • Indoor units: medium static ducted, wall mounts and cassettes
  • Hybrid Branch Controller (HBC) exchanges heat between refrigerant and water

                 - Heat Recovery

                 - 8/16 ports, connecting up to 50 indoor units

  • Horizon® Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) should be added to enhance ventilation and humidity management
  • Tracer® SC+ and Air-Fi® Wireless sensors support system automation

Advantages create better buildings.

    All-Electric Heat Pump

HVRF systems can help building owners get even closer to their decarbonization goals. This 100% electric heat pump with heat recovery uses energy more efficiently, making it better for buildings and the planet.

    Refrigerant Reduction

By introducing interior water lines, HVRF reduces the amount of refrigerant in the overall system by up to 20% compared to conventional VRF. Fewer refrigerant lines (and less refrigerant) make compliance easier for current and future regulations.

    Indoor Environmental Quality

Simultaneous heating and cooling maximizes individual comfort in separate spaces. HVRF indoor units are quieter due to water use, especially in defrost. (HVRF operating at 4 dB vs. VRF operating at 4 – 55 dB)

    Simplified Installation

Interior water lines use multi-layer composite pipe (MLP) which costs less than copper and requires no brazing to connect joints. HVRF is compatible with existing CITY MULTI® outdoor units, and Trane offers all necessary hydronic accessories for a fully packaged solution.
