As one of NYC's iconic hotel properties and one of the first to support the NYC Carbon Challenge, Grand Hyatt New York made a commitment to sustainable practices with the help of NYSERDA, Con Edison and Trane. They completed building automation upgrades that dramatically improved the energy use of the 1,298 guest room hotel.

Comprehensive energy improvements were completed through an Energy Savings Performance Contract. Trane replaced outdated boilers, lighting, HVAC systems, and controls. As well, replaced roofs & windows at two schools and installed a 1.2-megawatt solar photovoltaic system to generate renewable energy.

Results include overall utility cost savings of more than 20%. Total energy and nonenergy savings amounts to $454,888 per year. Utility incentives were approximately $1.1 million.
