What Is a Fan Coil Wall?
A fan coil wall is a cooling solution that utilizes a fan array to pull in warm air and push it through a cooling coil. It refers to a specific configuration of high-capacity fan coil units, designed for perimeter use in data centers. They provide precise temperature regulation for service rooms without the need for ductwork. Trane Commercial's fan coil wall is customizable and available as a single or stackable fan wall unit for data centers.
How Do Fan Coil Walls Work?
The wall is constructed from several fan coil units, and each consists of a fan, a coil (for heating or cooling), and a filter.
- Air Circulation: The fan draws air from the room, passes it through the filter to remove dust and particles, and then blows it across the coil.
- Cooling Process: Chilled water or refrigerant flows through the coil. As warm air passes over the coil, heat is absorbed, cooling the air, which is then recirculated into the room. The coil may also condense moisture from the air.
- Temperature Regulation: A factory-installed controller adjusts the fan speed and/or the flow of water or refrigerant to the heat exchanger, regulating the temperature of the space.
Fan coil walls are commonly used in data centers for perimeter cooling and maintaining precise temperatures in server rooms. They provide flexibility and scalability, and maintenance is simpler because their filters and components are easily accessible.
