The R2 Series recovers heat from zones in cooling mode and repurposes it for zones needing warmth, helping to reduce energy waste and helping lower utility costs.

  3. Quiet comfort for every zone

R2 Series systems deliver whisper-quiet operation thanks to advanced inverter technology and sound-dampening design, ensuring outdoor units allow the indoor environment to remain peaceful without compromising performance.

Product Information

  • Simplified two-pipe heat recovery design: A two-pipe system enables simultaneous heating and cooling from a single refrigerant circuit, reducing installation complexity and lowering material and labor costs.
  • Flexible capacity from 6 to 36 tons: Offered in single or modular configurations, the R2 Series supports a wide range of applications — from small office spaces to large, multi-story buildings — thanks to its scalable 6- to 36-ton capacity range.
  • Centralized energy transfer with branch controllers: Branch controllers manage simultaneous heating and cooling by transferring energy between zones, eliminating the need for added piping or components.
  • Reliable performance across wide temperature range: Designed for demanding climates, the R2 Series provides guaranteed heating in temperatures as low as -13°F and cooling in ambient conditions up to 115°F.
  • Inverter-driven compressors for efficient output: Advanced inverter technology adjusts compressor speed to match demand in real time — helping to reduce energy use and improve comfort across all operating conditions.
  • Compatible with integrated building controls: R2 Series systems connect with Tracer® SC+ and other BACnet®-compatible platforms, enabling centralized monitoring and seamless building automation integration.

FAQS

Your questions about VRF heat recovery systems, answered.

A VRF heat recovery system lets some zones heat while others cool, all at the same time. It does this by using a branch controller to route refrigerant (or water in hybrid VRF) where it’s needed. If one zone is cooling, the system can capture that heat and reuse it in a different zone that needs it. This approach helps reduce energy waste, improve comfort across the building and works especially well in spaces with varying loads like schools, offices or hotels.

A heat pump VRF system can only heat or cool at one time — all zones must be in the same mode. In contrast, a heat recovery system allows different zones to heat and cool simultaneously. It does this by transferring heat from zones that are cooling to zones that need heating. This makes heat recovery systems more efficient and more comfortable in buildings with diverse or changing needs across zones.

In most cases, the R2 Series delivers reliable performance in extreme temperatures without additional enhancements, thanks to its advanced inverter compressor technology. However, in very cold climates, optional accessories like base pan heaters or wind baffles may be recommended to prevent ice buildup and ensure consistent heating performance. Always check local climate conditions and consult design guidelines to determine if optional cold-climate kits are needed for your specific application.
