An Intelligent VAV system is a variable air volume system that uses proven products that have been updated to meet the latest efficiency standards and to enhance IAQ, while efficiently managing temperature, ventilation and humidity across different zones within a building.

A typical VAV system consists of a rooftop unit, water-cooled self-contained unit, or an air handling unit that services several individually controlled thermal zones. Each zone has a VAV terminal unit that varies the quantity of conditioned air delivered to maintain a desired zone temperature. System-level controls are used to control the operation of the entire system.

The key difference between VAV and VRF systems is that a VAV uses air and ductwork for temperature control, while VRF uses refrigerant and refrigerant piping for climate management.
