Dan Gentry
Dan Gentry is an Applications Engineer at Trane, where he specializes in chiller plants, heat recovery, and heat pump systems for complex building and industrial applications. After getting his start as an intern in Trane’s Technology Lab where he worked in the acoustic lab while still in school, Dan spent eight years with a Wisconsin chiller manufacturer before returning to Trane in 2018.
Dan geeks out about all things decarbonization, with a special passion these days for data center solutions where he finds there’s just so much to unpack and innovate. He’s always energized by conversations about chillers and heat pumps, which remain his long‑standing engineering obsessions. And despite being surrounded by modern digital tools, Dan has one decidedly analog quirk: when it’s time to review piping diagrams, he must print them out and trace every line with highlighters. Paper, markers, and a good mechanical pencil are his essentials.
Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in HVAC Engineering Technology from Ferris State University. Outside of work, you’ll find him floating on the Mississippi with his family or relaxing at their cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Sarah Hilden
Sarah joined Trane in 2015 as a Customer Direct Services (CDS) marketing engineer and later as a Senior Building Performance and Systems Engineer. As a CDS engineer, Sarah led a cross functional development team focused on TRACE™ 3D Plus along with support and training for users of CDS products globally. Before joining Trane, Sarah worked as a hardware design engineer for a telecom OEM and as a hardware and firmware engineer for an HVAC sensor manufacturer. Sarah graduated from North Dakota State University in her hometown of Fargo, ND with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Sarah’s current focus−as an Applications Engineer−is on chilled- and hot-water systems and advanced energy modelling. She has been involved with the La Crosse Area Chapter of ASHRAE® as newsletter editor, member-at-large on the Board of Governors and local committees over the years.

Esti Tierney
Esti currently serves as a Marketing Engineer for the Centrifugal Product Support Team at Trane, though has been in the industry for over fifteen years. She attended Colorado State University as an undergraduate and later obtained her MBA from UW-La Crosse. She is particularly interested in the energy efficiency movement within the HVAC industry and is excited about Trane’s involvement with sustainability and the commitment to carbon reduction.
Esti lives in the La Crosse area with her husband, Mark, and two children. She enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors. Esti is also active in the community, currently serving on the board for GROW La Crosse, an organization focused on children and families’ connections to healthy food, and participates in Trane’s STEM program for children at the local Boys & Girls Clubs.
