Trane smart thermostats for your home come with a lot of benefits that the other guys don’t offer, including remote monitoring, remote diagnostics, a 10-year warranty, and more. Trane was recently named a 5-star Thermostat Brand in America’s Most Trusted® Study for the fifth consecutive year with a Net Trust Quotient score of 110.6.
Because they connect to the internet via your home network, smart thermostats are also sometimes called Wi-Fi thermostats. We have a wide range of units to choose from. For example, the UX360 is for Trane communicating systems and includes Z-wave compatibility to pair with smart home systems. The XL824 smart thermostat is compatible with most standard HVAC systems, including non-Trane systems.
Work with your Trane dealer to find the best smart thermostat for your needs.
Smart thermostats can help you save money on your energy bills without sacrificing home comfort. If you take full advantage of their programming and learning capabilities, you can cut down on your energy consumption and save more than 10% on your utility bills.
Some homeowners can save up to 22% or more. Pair a Trane smart thermostat with a new energy-efficient HVAC system for the greatest energy savings. While smart thermostats may cost more upfront than a traditional thermostat, they can easily pay for themselves within a year.
Your smart thermostat can also help you control the humidity in your home. If you have a whole-house humidifier or dehumidifier, the smart thermostat will signal those HVAC components to come on to either raise the humidity in the winter or lower the humidity in the summer. The right humidity can make your home feel cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Pairing your Trane smart thermostat with the Trane Home App opens up a world of opportunity. This gives you remote control of your HVAC system even if you’re on vacation or out of town on business. Your Trane smart thermostat is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
“Trane smart thermostats are simple to set up and even simpler to use. With a few clicks, you can customize your comfort through scheduling either on the thermostat or on the Trane Home app."
- Michael Morey, Product Management Leader, Hardware
Perhaps the biggest difference between a Trane smart thermostat and one you can buy at a big box store is the peace of mind you get with remote monitoring and remote diagnostics.
By opting in via the Home App, you give your Trane dealer the capability to monitor your HVAC system’s health – much like a security company monitors your security system. They can spot problems while they’re still small, even when you’re away from home.
"With advanced diagnostics, your Trane technician can identify issues before even arriving at your home. That means faster repairs, fewer surprises, and greater peace of mind for you. Because your technician comes prepared with the right parts and tools, your comfort can be restored quickly and efficiently--saving time, hassle, and unexpected costs."
– Carla Kandalaft, Associate Product Manager for Software and Smart Systems.
Smart Thermostat FAQs
A smart thermostat is a Wi-Fi thermostat that connects to the internet and allows you to control the temperature and HVAC peripherals from your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer, no matter where you are. Coming home from work early and want the house to be comfortable when you get there? No problem. Left for vacation without putting the thermostat into vacation mode? No worries.
Some smart thermostats can even learn your temperature preferences and set a schedule. This saves energy and can save you money on your energy bills. When you get a Trane smart thermostat, you can sign up to allow your dealer to use Trane Diagnostics. This allows your dealer to access information from your thermostat to tell them what’s going on with your HVAC system. This gives the potential for them to diagnose and even fix a problem remotely.
Yes. Smart thermostat is the more common term, but Wi-Fi thermostats are smart thermostats. They connect to your wireless network to provide you with access from anywhere, via your smartphone. You can control the temperature, humidity levels, and more from the palm of your hand.
Studies from ENERGY STAR® and others show that replacing a standard thermostat with a smart HVAC thermostat can save the average homeowner 10%-20%+ on their heating and cooling bills. Maximum savings can be achieved by taking advantage of scheduling and remote adjustments. Your actual savings will vary based on how efficient your HVAC system is, your temperature settings, your climate, and more.
People in climates with four distinct seasons with great temperature swings might save more than someone in a temperate climate with stable temperatures, for example.
All Trane smart thermostats do. But many big-name, big-box store brands do not. It’s one of the things that sets our smart thermostats apart. When you get a Trane smart thermostat, you can opt in via the Home App to allow your dealer to use Trane Diagnostics.
Your smart thermostat sends data to your dealer about system performance, run times, maintenance issues, signs that repair is needed, and more. They may see a problem and be able to address it remotely. If an on-site visit is required, the HVAC technician will arrive with the right tools and troubleshooting results to help shorten the time of the service call.
If you see the word Hold on your smart thermostat, it means you can press a button or the touchscreen to hold the temperature at a certain level. This can be helpful if you have guests who need a warmer temperature than your normal schedule would provide, for example.
You can set it to Hold the temperature for a specific amount of time, and then depending on the model, the thermostat will return to its normal schedule. Sometimes you have to remember to turn off the Hold. Hold is not the same as Vacation Mode, which generally means you want to set the temperature much lower or higher than you would want it if you were home.
The best smart home thermostat is one that is compatible with your HVAC system and one that has features you will use. If you’re not very tech-savvy, you might not use all of the features of a smart thermostat, but the remote diagnostics feature of smart thermostats may be appealing to you.
Whether you’re considering thermostat replacement because your old thermostat doesn’t work anymore or you’re getting a new HVAC system and are trying to decide between Trane smart thermostats, talk with your local Trane dealer about your best options.
Your thermostat replacement cost will vary depending on the model you choose. Your final cost will include the product cost and the cost of smart thermostat installation. This cost is included in the cost of more comprehensive services such as HVAC replacement or installation. For optimal results, you should have an HVAC professional install and set up your thermostat or smart thermostat.
Not with a Trane smart thermostat, no. You need a Trane dealer to install and test the system. Our smart thermostats are more complex than what you can buy at a big-box store and install yourself.
Dealers can answer questions, help you find the right products for your home, and repair your system.
