If you’ve been spending more and more money on more frequent HVAC repairs, or your aging air conditioning system couldn’t keep up this past summer, you’re smart to be thinking about HVAC replacement.

Proactively replacing your system rather than waiting for it to fail puts you in the driver’s seat as far as scheduling and choosing your new HVAC system components. Here are our top 5 reasons why fall is a great time for HVAC system replacement.

#1: “Shoulder season” means HVAC companies aren’t as busy

In the HVAC industry, “shoulder season” means the transitional period in fall and spring before temperatures get too cold or too hot. In many parts of the country, fall means opening the windows at night to let cool, fresh air in.

People generally use their HVAC systems less during the fall months, leading to a lower demand for HVAC repairs. This means HVAC companies are generally less busy than they are during the peak seasons of winter and summer.

As a result, you may be able to get multiple quotes on a new system faster. It also means you won’t have to endure a sweltering or freezing house while the old HVAC system is removed and the new system is installed.

#2: HVAC manufacturers may have seasonal incentives

Many HVAC manufacturers, including Trane, offer national consumer promotions each fall. If you’re looking to reduce your overall HVAC installation cost, take advantage of any savings offers. But manufacturers’ incentives aren’t the only incentives. Take advantage of these additional offers to maximize your savings.

Heat pump rebates

As part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, many states have heat pump rebate programs to help homeowners upgrade to an electric heat pump system. Program requirements vary from state to state, and there may be an income limit. These point-of-sale rebates can be several thousand dollars. Utility rebates

Some utility companies across the country also offer rebates for installing an energy-efficient HVAC system or unit. You can check your utility company's website for offers. You can also visit our savings and offers page to see all of the options available in your area.

HVAC tax credit

Another incentive, good only for eligible systems installed before December 31, 2025, is the HVAC tax credit (25C tax credit). You can receive a $2,000 credit on a qualifying heat pump system, $1,200 on a qualifying air conditioner + furnace system, or up to $2,600 on a qualified dual-fuel heat pump system.

#3: Distributors may be trying to reduce inventory before the end of the year

Don’t count on any bargain basement prices, but be aware that HVAC distributors who keep inventory on hand may be trying to reduce inventory before the end of the year. They may offer discounts on products that are being replaced by a new model. To save even more, ask if they have any “scratch and dent” models that fit your heating and cooling needs.

#4: You could save on your heating bills almost immediately

Whether you install a new heat pump, a new furnace, or a hybrid heating system, you could start saving on your heating bills almost immediately. That’s because today’s HVAC units are much more energy efficient than units manufactured 15-25 years ago. Your savings will depend on the type of heating system and utility rates in your area. You’ll have delayed gratification next summer when your new AC or heat pump starts cooling.

#5: Your home will be more comfortable for the holidays

While it may be too late to get your new HVAC system installed before Thanksgiving, by contacting your local Trane dealer now, you should be able to have your new system in place before the December holidays.

That will make any family gathering more pleasant, and give you the peace of mind knowing that you have replaced your failing system before you have a houseful of guests.
