Trane Renews Partnership with This Old House
Trane partners with This Old House to create flexible housing and low-maintenance living.
This Old House pioneered the home remodeling TV show concept in 1979 and the inspirational projects have been flowing ever since — notching 20 Emmy Awards along the way. Last year, Trane partnered with This Old House on their 2020 Modern Farmhouse Idea House. Based on the successful venture, Trane again joined forces with husband-and-wife team Jerry and Sandy Effren of Greyrock Homes and architect Jim Jamieson for the 2021 Idea House.
Last year’s project was a 3,700-square-foot farmhouse in Fairfield, Conn., overlooking Long Island Sound, but this year’s initiative is even more ambitious. Just a few miles west down the coast in Norwalk, the Cottage Community Idea House is a pocket neighborhood designed to meet the town’s growing demand for flexible housing and low-maintenance living. While the overall site includes five duplexes of two cottages, each measuring 3,000 square feet and attached by single-car garages, the Idea House project focuses on one duplex.
The Idea Houses are designed to inspire homeowners and builders with fresh ideas and innovative building techniques. Trane’s role in the partnership focuses on the installation process of Trane HVAC products, as well as post-installation, the final home completion, and benefits of the HVAC systems. Trane’s reliability and performance, recently recognized for the seventh consecutive year as “America’s Most Trusted HVAC brand,” makes it a perfect match for the legendary This Old House brand.
Trane Products Featured in the 2021 Idea House
Trane is contributing a full array of products that will be installed in the 2021 Idea House model homes, some of the highlights include:
- Trane’s new S9V2 Gas Furnace is rated at 96% gas efficiency (AFUE), with a cabinet that’s certified to be airtight to less than 1%. The furnace’s Vortica™ II blower is one of the quietest and most efficient in the industry, saving homeowners energy in both winter and summer.
- Similarly, the Trane XV20i TruComfort™ air conditioner is one of the industry’s most efficient systems, saving on energy bills with ratings up to 22 SEER and variable speed technology that adjusts itself to avoid temperature swings. Both systems can also be paired with Trane CleanEffects™ for advanced air filtration that creates a cleaner, healthier, more comfortable home.
- The third key component is the Trane ComfortLink™ ll XL1050 Smart Thermostat, which pairs seamlessly with the Trane Home mobile app. With a Wi-Fi connection and any web-enabled device, homeowners can remotely control and monitor of temperatures, compatible smart devices, and energy use. In addition, the thermostat’s zoning capabilities make it easy to maintain consistent temperatures throughout the home. Trane Home also enables homeowners to stay on top of preventive maintenance with Dealer Remote Access, an innovative program the allows a homeowner’s preferred Trane dealer to diagnose or even repair a system remotely.
What’s Next for the This Old House’s Newest Project?
Groundbreaking for the 2021 Idea House took place in March 2021, with webcams tracking progress, and the build was completed at the end of June. The project will also be featured in the Winter issue of This Old House magazine, which will appear on Oct. 25.
