Industry leader in home heating and cooling pioneers a first in the Home air cleaning category and promotes a healthier indoor climate with asthma & allergy friendly® certification
Davidson, N.C., Sept. 25, 2017 – The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) has announced that the CleanEffects™ whole-home air cleaner from Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, is the first whole-home air cleaning system to earn its asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program mark.
With more than 60 million Americans suffering from asthma and allergies, this certification mark guides consumers in identifying products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark is awarded only to those products that are scientifically proven to reduce exposure to asthma and allergy triggers.
“Indoor air can often be more polluted than outdoor air,” said AAFA’s Acting CEO Lynda Mitchell.
“A whole home air cleaning system is an effective way to give families cleaner and healthier indoor air. We are glad that Trane recognizes the importance of improving the air of the entire home.”
To achieve the asthma & allergy friendly certification, Trane’s CleanEffects passed a rigorous battery of performance tests related to the capture of airborne particulates, specifically three of the most common allergens found in the home: pet dander, grass pollen and dust mite feces. This certification process consisted of a series of independent, proprietary lab tests that verify CleanEffects’ Intense Field Dialectics technology reduces airborne particulates and can help diminish exposure to allergens and irritants.
In addition to these tested allergens, CleanEffects is effective in removing other indoor pollutants such as household dust, mold spores, bacteria and viruses including Influenza A, cooking odors, tobacco and wood smoke.
“Most competitive filter ratings are expressed using tests that are done by measuring the effectiveness at the filter. Tests for asthma & allergy friendly ® certification simulate real life environments that allergy sufferers experience,” said Jay Ayers, air quality portfolio leader for Trane. “CleanEffects had to meet specific criteria not only at the filter, but in the duct, and in a test room the size of a real room in the home.”
“With nearly 70 percent of households affected by indoor allergens, it’s important that consumers can rely on trusted brands like Trane that address concerns and exceed their needs regarding home air quality,” added Ayers. “Trane worked in conjunction with AAFA to develop the scientific research standard that shows our products can effectively reduce common airborne particles found in the home. We are especially honored to be the first whole home air cleaning system to earn this certification.”
CleanEffects is sold through authorized Trane dealers and requires professional installation.
