Built to replace the older XL 824 smart thermostat, the new Priority Smart Thermostat features a sleek, modern design, delivers smart performance, and offers intuitive control. The quick-touch glass LED touchscreen uses color cues to show heating or cooling at a glance.

Dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi keeps you connected via the Trane Home® App, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa, so you’re always in control of your heating and cooling system, no matter where you are.

“The Priority Smart Thermostat is a meaningful upgrade from the XL824, with a sleeker design, a more intuitive experience, and smarter connected control. Homeowners can adjust settings at the thermostat or in the Trane Home App, monitor system activity, and stay in control of comfort and energy use from virtually anywhere.”

ENERGY STAR®-certified smart thermostat

This smart thermostat is ENERGY STAR®-certified. That means it’s been independently certified to deliver precise temperature control and energy savings. Take advantage of all of the customized scheduling opportunities and geofencing capabilities to save money on your energy bills.

The Priority Smart Thermostat can even learn your habits and make automatic adjustments! It can do this through occupancy sensing, raising or lowering the temperature when no one is home, and adjusting again when you come home.

Coming soon via Over-the-Air Upgrade: For further savings and incentives, consider signing up for your utility company’s Utility Savings/Demand Response program. Search for your utility company in the Home App to see if a program is available, and to learn details.

Compatible with most HVAC systems

The Priority Smart Thermostat is a smart HVAC solution for you if you’re looking to save money on energy bills and want the convenience of remotely controlling your HVAC system. You can control heating, cooling, ventilation, and humidification. Apart from communicating variable-speed systems, the Priority Smart Thermostat is universally compatible with standard HVAC systems of any brand.

System applications

  • Gas, oil, electric, hydronic (radiant and forced air)
  • Conventional AC + furnace: up to 2 heating stages and 2 cooling stages
  • Heat pump/dual fuel system: up to 5 heating stages and 2 cooling stages

Better together: Add the Remote Temperature & Humidity Sensor

Designed specifically for use with the Priority Smart Thermostat, Trane’s new sensor kit can enhance your home comfort.

  • Reduce hot and cold spots
  • Improve humidity control with the Integrated Dehumidification Solution (IDS) (coming soon)
  • Manage up to six sensors from a single thermostat
  • No wires needed; stand or wall mount

“For homeowners who notice that one room feels too warm while another feels too cool, remote HVAC sensors can make a real difference. The remote sensors help the thermostat respond to what’s happening across more of the home, not just in the hallway or wherever the thermostat happens to be installed. This gives homeowners a more representative view of temperature and humidity across the home and can improve comfort control."

Get peace of mind with remote monitoring and Trane Diagnostics

A big benefit of installing the Trane Priority Smart Thermostat instead of a big box store smart thermostat is the integration with Trane Diagnostics. By opting in via the Home App, you give your local Trane dealer remote HVAC monitoring capabilities. You only need to opt in once.

Your smart thermostat sends real-time data to your HVAC dealer, allowing them to see performance trends, run time, and more. They can spot a small glitch before it becomes a crisis. In some cases, if you grant permission for Dealer Remote Access (DRA), they can fix the problem remotely. If an on-site visit is needed, the HVAC technician arrives on the job fully prepared.

And again, this is regardless of your HVAC system brand.

“With Trane Diagnostics, your system is connected and designed to share performance insights with your dealer so they can spot, diagnose, and often fix issues remotely.  This secure platform can give you peace of mind, while saving you and your dealer time and money.”

What if I have an XL824 already installed?

Trane will continue to offer support for the XL824 smart thermostat, but the product itself will be phased out for new installations. The Priority Smart Thermostat can be used for an XL824 warranty claim. It’s a drop-in replacement for most XL824 applications, excluding systems utilizing IDS, demand response, or more than 1 auxiliary contact. Contact your Trane dealer for details.

When to install a new smart thermostat

If you need to replace your HVAC system, installing a new smart thermostat at the same time can help you save energy and money as well as take advantage of all your new system has to offer.

You may also choose to install a new smart thermostat if you want to upgrade from a traditional thermostat, or if you’re not happy with your current smart thermostat. The Priority Smart Thermostat is a great choice in any of these scenarios.

Contact your local Trane dealer for more information.
