WHY ISN'T MY HEAT PUMP HEATING OR COOLING PROPERLY?

The problem could be your thermostat settings. Make sure your thermostat is set to heat. Try setting the temperature 2 to 4 degrees above room temperature. If you’re troubleshooting the cooling mode, follow the same steps but set the temperature below room temperature instead.

WHY IS THE FAN ON MY HEAT PUMP NOT RUNNING?

It could be a bad fuse or you might have flipped a breaker. Try replacing the fuse or flipping the circuit breaker to the closed position. Your heat pump may also have old or worn-out wiring that needs to be repaired or tightened by a Trane Comfort Specialist™.

WHY IS THERE ICE BUILD-UP THE OUTDOOR COIL OF MY HEAT PUMP?

You could have a defective defroster timer or control module. You may also be low on refrigerant. You can manually check the refrigerant by examining the copper lines. One of them should be cold to the touch. Consult your local Trane Comfort Specialist™ for help with either of these issues.

WHY IS THERE LOW OR NO AIR FLOW FROM MY HEAT PUMP?

  • The outdoor unit could be obstructed Clear away debris like grass clippings, sticks, leaves, and weeds. Then note any changes in airflow. If this doesn’t work, contact your Trane Comfort Specialist™.
  • Your filters could need replacing Sometimes when filters get too dirty, they can reduce airflow. Replace any dirty filters. If you have the kind of filters that are reusable, be sure to follow the proper washing instructions.
