The latest release of TRACE 700 focuses on updating and adding to the standard libraries that come with TRACE 700.

What's New in TRACE 6.3.3 (June 2016)

90.1-2013 Libraries  Previously the TRACE library included equipment and constructions for 90.1 – 2004, 2007, and 2010.  This has now been expanded to include 90.1-2013 equipment and constructions.  The upcoming LEED Version 5 will require adherence to 90.1-2013 and these library member will speed up the modeling process for LEED Version 5.

CVHS Library Trane’s Series S CenTraVac chiller is now available as a cooling equipment library in the program.  This can be found in the water cooled chiller category.  Remember, you can still import Trane equipment selections from TOPSS into TRACE.

What’s New in TRACE 6.3.2

Automatically calculate the ventilation rates for health care facilities. TRACE 700 now offers direct support for the health care facility ventilation standard, ASHRAE 170.  It is now possible to model ventilation in accordance with standard 62.1, standard 170, or a combination of both 62.1 and 170 spaces.

Model sophisticated evaporative cooling systems and energy recovery devices. The modeling options for indirect and direct evaporative cooling have been significantly expanded in TRACE v6.3.2.  Since evaporative cooling systems commonly work in concert with energy recovery devices, energy recovery options have also been expanded..

Optimize the operation of the chiller plant controls. Version 6.3.2 of TRACE will allow designers and engineers to run their cooling plants much closer to optimal behavior.  The new Optimal sequencing type operates each chiller at its optimal part load ratio (as defined in the Cooling Equipment Library) and will operate the last chiller between its minimum and maximum part load ratio in order to meet the loop demand.

X

The latest version of TRACE simplifies the building energy modeling process for LEED projects.

As the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system evolves, achieving LEED certification continues to require the most current tools to help maximize credit points. Trane is a LEED automation partner so you are assured that TRACE 700 is continuously being updated to reflect the most recent changes in energy standards, and it meets the requirements for simulation software set by ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004-2010 and the LEED Green Building Rating System. The software is supported by the TRACE C.D.S. team, the majority of whom are LEED APs or GAs.

Specifically, TRACE 700 can help document compliance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 or validate the building’s eligibility for LEED certification. TRACE 700 provides multiple features to help model the Performance Rating Method:

  • LEED Automation - automatically submit project data for EAp2, EAc1, IEQ p1 and IEQc2
  • LEED Guide (view demo)
  • Baseline Building Creator
  • Rotate building automatically
  • PRM fan power calculations found in 90.1-2010
  • Reset hot-water-leaving temperatures
  • ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004-2010 compliant equipment library
  • Simulate daylighting
  • Estimate cooling coil condensate
  • Calculate ASHRAE 62.1 with DCV based on CO2
  • Reset supply-air temperatures
  • Model extensive air-to-air energy recovery options
  • Detailed output reports for LEED submission
  • Packaged energy rate break-out

LEED credits

TRACE 700 helps to achieve Energy and Atmosphere prerequisite 2 and gain credit points under Energy and Atmosphere credit 1, but there are other credit points TRACE 700 can help attain. Four additional credits lend themselves to the modeling capabilities of TRACE 700.

  • Water Efficiency credit 3
The Equipment Energy Consumption report shows the amount of make-up water associated with the cooling coil condensate. This information may be helpful in achieving this credit.
  • Energy and Atmosphere credit 5, option D: Measurement & Verification.
The model used for EAc1 can be used towards achieving this credit. Reference the “International Performance Measurement & Verification Protocol: Concepts and Options for Determining Energy Savings in New Construction Volume III” for detailed information on how to appropriately adjust the model from EAc1 to be used for this credit.
  • Energy and Atmosphere credit 6: Green Power
The model used for EAc1 can identify the baseline to achieve Green Power credits.
  • Environmental Quality credit 8: Daylighting & Views Credits are awarded when a specified level of daylighting is achieved. When users create daylighting definitions within TRACE, the program generates a special report showing the foot-candles of daylight present in the spaces with daylighting controls.

  • Fixed an error that would incorrectly show gas consumption on the Energy Cost Budget report for equipment with no gas consumption when Base Alternative For Energy Cost Budget Method has been selected.
  • Fixed an error that would prevent the ASHRAE weather overrides from being saved in an archive file with imported weather.

  • Fixed the demand defrost curves for air-to-air heat pumps to allow for proper defrost usage.
  • Fixed an issue when the exhaust fan kW would be incorrectly calculated based upon entered static pressure.
  • Fixed an issue that would not allow a preheat coil to operate with a VRH system during unoccupied hours.
  • Fixed an error that would omit the Summer Ground Reflectance when changed by a user.
  • Fixed an error that would ignore discriminator controls for some systems.
  • Fixed an error that would ignore internal shading for windows that were defined with spectral glass.
  • Fixed an error with the fan coil system that would reset room SADB based upon system-level SABD.
  • Fixed an error that would incorrectly assign the CO2 sensor location in templates based upon previous alternatives.
  • Fixed an issue with DDVAV that would incorrectly set the cold deck return outside-air CFM.
  • Fixed an issue that would eliminate chiller energy usage with heat recovery machines and tank charging.
  • Fixed an error that would double the multiplier used to link plant and coil capacities.
  • Fixed an error that would ignore a split dehumidification system with a single zone airside system.
  • Fixed an error that would ignore the use of energy recovery with the radiation heating-only system.
  • Fixed an error that displayed the incorrect units for a humidification coil on various Design reports.
