Hysan Place (HK): Eco-Friendly Transformation with Trane CenTraVac® Chiller

Mission

Hysan Place, a premier commercial complex in Causeway Bay, aimed to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability while optimizing tenant and visitor comfort. Recognizing the importance of selecting a solution that align with its sustainability goals and provide long-term value for its stakeholders, Hysan Place sought to achieve these goals: superior comfort, enhanced efficiency, and prioritized sustainability.

Solution

In collaboration with Trane Hong Kong, Hysan Place adopted the award winning CVHM water-cooled centrifugal chiller, which has received the Green Product Certification – Platinum by the Construction Industry Council. Trane upgraded the chiller plant with a CVHM chiller, that features a compact design, requiring minimal installation space, and delivers superior energy efficiency. The chiller uses new-generation HFO refrigerant R514A with a negligible global warming potential (GWP) of less than 2, making it the first ultra-low GWP chiller adopted by Hysan properties. 

Result

  1. The chiller reduced energy consumption significantly, achieving a full-load COP of 6.53, exceeding the Building Energy Code (BEC) 2021 requirement by 14.6%.

  2. The use of R514A refrigerant minimized environmental impact and supported Hysan Place's LEED – Platinum rating.

By adopting Trane’s CVHM chiller, Hysan Place achieved enhanced comfort, sustainability, and energy efficiency, setting a benchmark for sustainable cooling solutions in Hong Kong’s commercial landscape.
