Trane Educates ACEEE Intelligent Efficiency Conference Attendees about the
Benefits of Enabling Virtual Power Plants

Austin, Texas, Dec. 1, 2016 – Matt Bye, grid services product manager for Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, will join other thought leaders at the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) 2016 Intelligent Efficiency conference in a panel discussion about how intelligent efficiency can reduce energy consumption while transforming energy-using markets. The conference will be held Dec. 4-6 in Austin with the panel discussion in which Bye is participating, “Enabling the Virtual Power Plant,” taking place at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.

Bye will explain how the building market evolved from its initial energy-efficiency-only focus to a demand-response approach and how it is now evolving to activating buildings as grid resources. He will describe how, when outfitted with appropriate equipment and controls, fleets of buildings can be scheduled and dispatched by grid operators like virtual power plants to supply energy, capacity and ancillary services.

“Utilities can relieve congestion to the grid by collaborating with energy experts and building owners to use buildings as virtual power plants,” Bye said. “These virtual power plants in turn enable organizations to run their businesses more cost-effectively because they can use flexible energy storage to track energy supply, manage energy demand and decrease costs.”
