Kindred Healthcare

Project Summary

Trane provides sales, service, parts and project management support for Kindred Healthcare.

Challenge

In the summer of 2007 the chiller at a Kindred Healthcare nursing home in Salt Lake City failed. Temperatures that week reached about 95 degrees every day, causing extremely warm conditions in the nursing home.

Solution

Kindred Healthcare called on Trane in Salt Lake City. Within just a couple hours of arriving at the nursing home, Trane service technicians had the chiller repaired and temperatures within the nursing home returned to comfortable levels.

Results

As a result of Trane’s fast, professional response to this service call, Kindred Healthcare now relies on Trane sales, service and support for facilities throughout the Rocky Mountain region and beyond. Kindred Healthcare has contracted with Trane for service contracts, service and maintenance projects and a variety of contracting jobs relative to HVAC and other building systems.

For example, Kindred Healthcare recently asked Trane to provide a backup, dieselpowered electrical generator for a facility in Englewood, Colorado. Trane handled the project by serving as the general contractor and project manager, completing the project within Kindred Healthcare’s strict schedule. Trane is now completing similar projects in Washington, Wyoming and Utah.

Craig Sharpe, Area Manager of Maintenance for Kindred Healthcare in Utah, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado, has worked in the healthcare industry for 26 years, previously in the Southeast United States. Sharpe says, “When I came to the Rocky Mountain region I was already familiar with Trane’s capabilities. For example, when that chiller went down at that Salt Lake City nursing home, after we called Trane they had five technicians out there on a Saturday morning.

“Hospitals and nursing homes need service now or yesterday! We rely on Trane because they have the resources we need. And when we need equipment, they have it in stock. Trane goes the extra mile for me.”
