Proper design of a chilled water system can greatly affect its energy use and life-cycle costs. Fine-tuning the design and operation can go a long way toward minimizing energy costs, but it also requires a good understanding of how the system components affect each other. This ENL examines cooling tower-chiller interaction at various conditions, and discusses techniques to minimize initial and/or operating costs.
