Musée d’Orsay Saves Energy, Ensures Long-Term Sustainability with Trane

When working with historic buildings, one of the unique challenges we face is upgrading building infrastructure systems without disturbing the unique architecture or the priceless and irreplaceable artifacts within. That challenge also makes it more rewarding to know that, when the job is done, we’ve done our part to safeguard a piece of history for generations to come.

We were honored to work with Musée d'Orsay in Paris, one of the most celebrated and popular attractions in France. The museum was once a railway station – Orsay – and the station’s architecture is often referred to as its own work of art.

We worked with Musée d'Orsay to implement infrastructure improvements needed to reduce energy consumption and operating costs. These improvements will also preserve the museum’s sensitive indoor environment crucial to its masterpieces and ensure the comfort and safety of visitors and staff.

Trane implemented a state-of-the-art heating, ventilation and air conditioning system that was customized to the museum’s unique technical and aesthetic needs. It was installed with minimal disruption to the site’s masterpieces, including those by Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh and others. Further improvements included four Trane RTWD high efficiency chillers and four custom-built cooling towers in stainless steel. Trane chilled water system plant controls with refrigerant monitoring and leak detection further optimize the system.
