Trane Enhances Unmatched Capacities of the XStream™ Generation of Water-Cooled Screw Chillers with New RTHF Units

New units increase the capacity coverage of the XStream range to 3.2 MW making it the highest capacity screw chiller range on the market and a cost effective alternative to centrifugal chillers

Brussels, April 27, 2017 – Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, enhances its XStream™ range of water-cooled screw chillers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa with new, high-capacity RTHF units. The new units address the needs of building owners who are looking for a cost effective alternative to centrifugal chillers for their critical, large capacity cooling installations.

The RTHF chiller enhances the capacity of the XStream range to up to 3.2 megawatts (MW), unmatched by any other screw chiller available on the market today. The XStream RHTF offers reliable, high-efficiency performance with up to 6.3 Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and up to 9.3 European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ESEER) with variable speed. This makes it an appropriate solution for critical applications and buildings such as datacentres, hospitals, process cooling, large office buildings and district cooling.

“With the new XStream RTHF chiller, Trane provides its customers with a unique, advantageous solution offering cooling capacities that, until now, were only reachable with centrifugal technology,” said Erik van Oossanen, portfolio manager at Trane. “As of now, customers have an alternative in this segment and the enhanced Trane XStream RTHF offers them a more cost effective option that will contribute to an improved bottom line and lower total cost of ownership without compromises on energy efficiency, performance or reliability.”

The design and control features of the new XStream RTHF screw chillers allow for:

  • Stable operation in extreme conditions
  • Versatility of operations in comfort or industrial process cooling applications in conditions as low as -12°Celsius on the evaporator side
  • Dual circuit configuration, introducing dual circuit chillers to the market segment that could only use single circuit centrifugal chillers. Dual circuit configuration reduces refrigerant content per circuit and further increases reliability
  • Full compatibility with the use of variable flow for reduced power use and enhanced system efficiency.

Trane Adaptive Control™ with patented industry leading algorithms and multiple diagnostic capabilities, allows facility managers to take actions and prevent shutdown in case of abnormal operating conditions. This proactive option translates into the reliability needed in critical applications and is complemented by Trane’s decades of experience in screw compressor technology with hundreds of thousands of compressors operating worldwide.

All XStream chillers are given a complete functional test and validation in the Trane state-of-the-art testing facility in Epinal, France. The computer-based test program comprehensively checks the sensors, wiring, electrical components, microprocessor function, communication capability and expansion valve performance to assure the highest quality standards.
