Program Details

The PG&E Shift & Save Program allocates $10 million to help customers permanently shift cooling energy loads to Off-Peak hours, when energy is less expensive and environmental impact is minimized. The funds will be awarded to customers as a rebate, as high as $2,000 per kW of shifted energy.

Unlike previous peak load shedding programs, Shift & Save does not require customers to change the way they operate their business. Alternatives like Demand Response require that participants turn off lights, turn up temperatures, shut down non-essential functions, or otherwise change their operations to reduce peak energy consumption. Shift & Save promotes cooling technologies that permanently shift peak cooling loads to off-peak generation, without interruption to the daily flow of business. This also allows demands to be eliminated over the entire peak electrical season, helping reduce the need to run dirty coal-burning "Peaker Plants" and helping to protect California from rolling blackouts.
