Redesigned Trane Terminal Units Capable of Improving Efficiency by up to 66 Percent

Macon, Ga., Oct. 29, 2013 — Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, is introducing its newly redesigned family of configurable terminal products — a complete offering that delivers improved efficiency, ease of installation, acoustics and temperature control.

The new Trane® terminal products can improve efficiency by up to 66 percent over units using permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors, featuring the industry’s only factory commissioned Single Zone Variable Air Volume (VAV) solution. Trane Single Zone VAV systems combine electronically commutated (EC) motors and the industry’s only factory programmed variable speed controllers that adjust the speed of the unit’s motor and its air volume to meet unique load requirements in various spaces of a building.

Because it precisely matches load requirements, the motor’s variable speed technology is ideal in partial load conditions. The unit’s Tracer™ UC400 unit controller features exclusive control algorithms that are programmed, mounted, wired and tested at the factory.

The control algorithms maximize performance on Trane terminal products, using only the energy necessary to achieve fan speeds that meet a space’s heating and cooling needs.

In addition to infinitely variable fan speeds, the VelociTach™ motor control board enables real-time performance monitoring to enhance serviceability, ensures optimal performance for the life of the equipment and reduces the time required for installation and startup.

“We have completely reimagined our terminal products to deliver the lowest cost of ownership in the industry,” said Eve London, terminal products manager for Trane. “With factory commissioned and tested unit controllers, EC motors offered as standard on all products and a host of other technology advancements, Trane terminal units set a new industry standard for efficiency and energy savings, reliability and ease of installation.”

In addition to the controls and units themselves, any required piping packages are installed, configured and tested during manufacture, providing a turnkey solution for on-site installation and system setup. This “plug and play” installation ensures lower first costs and reduces job site programming errors.

Trane terminal products also incorporate flexible design. With numerous models and configurations, UniTrane™ fan coils, unit ventilators and blower coils can be precisely configured to virtually any new construction job or retrofit application. Exclusive Trane technology reduces the nameplate Full Load Amps (FLA) of standard size EC motors, eliminating the need for rewiring to deliver Single Zone VAV performance to retrofit and renovation jobs.

In addition, terminal products with Tracer UC400 controllers feature an innovative tempering algorithm that eliminates significant temperature variations, ensuring occupant comfort. Discharge air temperature control means building spaces reach their desired set points more quickly with greater temperature stability.

Soft ramp technology slowly increases and decreases fan speeds, adjusting to maintain temperature settings while dehumidifying the air. This improves indoor air quality by reducing the potential for mold or harmful bacteria in the building. Soft ramp technology also improves system acoustics by providing minimum air volume and eliminating noisy on/off cycling.

Trane terminal products are built to meet or exceed several industry standards and certifications, including ASHRAE 62-2001, California Title 24 and AHRI 410, 430 and 440.
