Trane Introduces XStream™, New Generation of Water-Cooled Screw Chillers with Unmatched Capacities

New range delivers cooling and heating and is available in four different efficiency levels featuring high capacities of up to 2.3 MW unmatched by any screw chiller available on the market today

Brussels, June 24, 2016 – Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, introduces XStream™, a new range of water-cooled screw chillers now available in Europe and the Middle East. The new generation of chillers addresses the needs of building owners who are looking for high operational efficiency, versatility of applications, and the best return on investment to offset rising energy costs.

The new XStream range offers high capacities of up to 2.3 MW, unmatched by any other screw chiller available on the market today. The XStream offers a reliable and efficient alternative for owners who require a higher seasonal efficiency in critical applications and buildings such as datacentres, hospitals, process cooling, large office buildings and district cooling and heating.

“Our new Trane XStream generation of chillers is a perfect choice for buildings that require large capacity and high energy efficiency performances, whilst precisely matching additional requirements such as heating and extreme load variation”, said Erik van Oossanen, portfolio manager at Trane. “The XStream range is unmatched by any other screw chillers on the market today and gives our customers the ability to operate under high condensing temperatures up to 65 degrees Celsius and as low as minus 12 degrees Celsius on the evaporator side, which makes them ideally suitable for high condensing water applications or heating applications for comfort or sanitary hot water delivery.”

The flexible design of the XStream chiller portfolio delivers efficiency configurations that can be truly tailored to customers’ needs. These include:

  • Availability in four efficiency levels that achieve leading Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ESEER). The XStream XE model offering Net EER value of 5.72 (5.88 Gross EER) and the XStream HSE unit reaching 7.49 Net (7.69 Gross) ESEER value.
  • Series counterflow configuration that significantly increases the efficiency of the chiller plant and reduces installation costs.
  • All sizes with dual circuit configuration reducing refrigerant content per circuit and further increasing reliability.
  • Full compatibility with the use of variable flow for reduced power use.

Features such as the Trane Adaptive Control™ with patented industry leading algorithms and multiple diagnostic capabilities, allows facility managers to take actions and prevent shutdown in case of abnormal operating conditions. This proactive option translates into the reliability needed in critical applications and is complemented by Trane’s decades of experience in screw compressor technology with hundreds of thousands of compressors operating worldwide.

All XStream chillers are given a complete functional test and validation in the Trane state-of-the-art testing facility in Epinal, France. The computer-based test program comprehensively checks the sensors, wiring, electrical components, microprocessor function, communication capability and expansion valve performance to assure the highest quality standards.
