Environmental Stewardship
We changed our name from American Standard Companies to Trane on November 28, 2007, following a successful company separation. The information in the following section includes our former businesses, along with Trane.
A Higher Standard of Environmental Sustainability
Trane created a thermal ice storage system for Credit Suisse that provides energy efficiency, cost savings and support for the company's environmental leadership goals. William Beck of Credit Suisse, center, discusses the system with Trane's Daniel Palino, left, and Michael Littman, right, at Credit Suisse's headquarters in New York City. The system generates ice at night, when energy demand is low, and then uses the ice to help cool the building during the day, when energy demand is high.
Trane's commitment to energy efficiency and the environment translated into client success this year when two major customers were recognized by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for significantly reducing their energy consumption after installing Trane air conditioning systems.
Trane installed two of the New York metropolitan area's largest ice storage based air conditioning systems in the Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley buildings, shifting the electrical load from peak hours to off-peak hours. The Trane Thermal Storage Solution makes ice at night when electricity is more plentiful, less expensive and more efficiently generated, then uses the ice to cool the building during daytime peak energy hours.
The annual energy savings of the Trane Thermal Storage Solution are equivalent to Credit Suisse taking 223 cars off the road or to Morgan Stanley planting 1.5 million acres of trees.
Because of the dramatic energy use reduction provided by Trane's cooling system, NYSERDA rewarded Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley with financial and technical assistance for their environmental endeavors.
The Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley buildings enjoy lower energy costs and provide energy reliability for New York City's power grid.
Mayor Bloomberg supports innovative ways to address New York City's growing energy needs. Thermal storage is an important potential resource for New York City...I am confident the success of this project will encourage others to recognize the substantial opportunities offered by this technology.
