Environmental Stewardship
We changed our name from American Standard Companies to Trane on November 28, 2007, following a successful company separation. The information in the following section includes our former businesses, along with Trane.
Priorties and Policies
Environmental stewardship at Trane/American Standard is driven by priorities that reflect emerging environmental imperatives, stakeholder interests and business objectives.
- Product Innovation
- We produce high quality, energy- and water-efficient products and systems that minimize the use of natural resources. By providing energy-efficient HVAC products, systems expertise and services, we continue to assist our customers in lowering their energy use and the greenhouse gas emissions that result from that energy generation. We also look to build on our commercial initiatives where equipment upgrades are financed by guaranteed energy savings.
- Energy Efficiency
- We advocate economically and technically justifiable standards and codes that promote energy efficiency in the HVAC equipment markets in which we compete.
- Water Conservation
- We advocate voluntary guidelines as well as appropriate standards and codes that we believe promote water efficiency in the bath and kitchen product markets in which we compete and work to conserve water in all phases of our business operations.
- Waste Reduction
- We are committed to reducing wastes generated by our operations.
- Performance Metrics
- We gather data on our environmental performance, using established methodologies where available, and make that data public. Trane/American Standard is an environmentally responsible neighbor in the communities in which we operate. At a minimum, we require knowledge of, and strict compliance with, all applicable national, state, provincial and local laws and regulations for the protection of the environment by each of our businesses. Our Environmental Stewardship encourages efforts beyond legal requirements where there are opportunities to improve environmental protection.
Our Environmental Stewardship encourages efforts beyond legal requirements where there are opportunities to improve environmental protection.
In order to accomplish this, we:
- Communicate honestly and openly with our employees, as well as our neighbors, customers, shareowners and government agencies about the nature of our operations and products and their relationship to the environment,
- Continue to design products, processes and operating facilities worldwide that are environmentally sound, conserve resources and energy, minimize the use of hazardous materials and reduce waste,
- Establish and maintain environmental metrics that are global, timely and understandable,
- Strive to integrate environmental protection into our business activities and processes and
- Continually look for opportunities to make our environmental performance better.
