Environmental Stewardship
We changed our name from American Standard Companies to Trane on November 28, 2007, following a successful company separation. The information in the following section includes our former businesses, along with Trane.
Due Diligence
Trane/American Standard owns or leases nearly 2,000 acres of land around the world. It is our policy to conduct an environmental due diligence assessment when purchasing or leasing facilities worldwide.
Our assessments are consistent with American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) methodology, except in those instances where the potential for environmental contamination of a property is viewed to be very low.
Assessments include a visual observation of the facility and its surroundings, interviews with appropriate management and site personnel, a review of environmental permits and documentation, and, if feasible, discussions with relevant regulatory personnel.
In instances where the assessment uncovers potential environmental concerns that warrant further investigation, we implement additional assessments that include soil and/or groundwater sampling and analysis in those areas where the initial assessment uncovered potential environmental concerns.
The primary purpose of an environmental due diligence assessment is to identify current site conditions that could impact soil, air, groundwater or surface water and could endanger human health or the environment and/or be in breach of applicable laws and regulations.
